Root Speaks on Youth Ministry Relationships
In the first of our luncheon and lecture series titled "Youth Ministry: Now" for pastors and youth ministry leaders, Dr. Andrew Root spoke on "Relationships Unfiltered." Later in the afternoon, he made a presentation on "Identity" to the Berkeley Divinity School's leadership colloquium. You can view video of the afternoon presentation here.
Dr. Root is Associate Professor and Carrie Olson Baalson Chair of Youth and Family Ministry, Luther Seminary. He is the author of the upcoming Thinking Theologically in Youth Ministry series and the co-author of The Theological Turn in Youth Ministry.
At the lunch lecture, he focused on the question, "What are relationships in youth ministry, and what are they for?" He explored relational youth ministry in order to uncover some of the blind spots in our contemporary understanding of relationships with young people. Relational ministry was re-imagined NOT as seeking to influence kids toward some end but rather, seeing it as place-sharing as Christ also shares our place with us.
All four luncheon series will be held at Berkeley Center, 363 St. Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06519. Lunch begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by a presentation from 12:30 to 1:30 and then networking and discussion. To reserve a box lunch, RSVP to jeanne.moule@yale.edu.
This series is co-sponsored by the Adolescent Faith and Flourishing Program at the Yale Center for Faith and Culture and the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale.
The other three sessions are as follows:
